Atrap délo: 2-phased project in Rodrigues

Campaign launched by the Rotary Club of Phoenix, with the collaboration of its sister associations of Gros-Cailloux / Petite-Rivière, St Denis la Montagne (Reunion Island) and Rodrigues, since 2018.

Rodrigues Island has been severely affected by drought for about ten years.

This campaign aimed to offer a water reservoir to 50 low-income Rodrigues families, namely Petite Butte, Mont Limon and the surrounding area. The objective of this initiative was to allow beneficiaries to harvest rainwater for their daily needs.

PHASE 1: october 2018 in Rodrigues

Back in October 2018, 20 water tanks were distributed and installed in the Petite Butte area.

The Club also launched the “Let’s Celebrate Water” painting contest targeted to upper primary and lower secondary students in Rodrigues.

PHASE 2: march 2019 in Rodrigues

In March 2019, the Club members braved cyclonic conditions to complete the second phase of the Atrap délo pa laiss li allé project. The remaining 30 water tanks were distributed to the families in the targeted regions.

The results of the drawing contest were also announced on this occasion. All participants were given a Certificate of Participation, and the winners in each category won one prize each.

The contest was a huge success as students showed much interest in the contest with 42 participants at the elementary level and 35 at the college level.

Children are, moreover, very present at the heart of all our projects. We firmly believe in the Rotary Club of Phoenix that it’s important for a child to grow up in a supportive environment, with the right tools and values, and environmental preservation is part of it, “concludes Harsha Pathak.

The tank and awards ceremony was attended by Rotary District 9220 Governor Shelly Oukabay, Rotarians from the four clubs in the region involved in the project, recipients, and dignitaries from the Regional Assembly of Rotary, Rodrigues.
