Role Model-Inspiring Young Judokas

Inspiring young judokas - interaction with role models and a donation of kimonos

One of the main objectives of Rotary is to change people’s lives through the community and vocational avenues of service. The project targeted one of the main ‘pockets of poverty’ in suburbs of the capital city Port Louis and aimed at using sports to get children out the poverty circle through sports.

The objective of the project was to have a joint Community and Vocational Service project to help the young judokas in the region of Port-Louis by inviting the National Judo Team to act as inspiring role model for the young judokas and donating kimonos for the children’s judo practice.

The Judo Clubs operating in the suburbs of Port-Louis were training over 100 children aged between 6-16 years with the objective of teaching them the importance of healthy living through sports, the meaning of respecting regulations and the positive attributes gained from regular sport activities.

By doing this, they were also keeping the children safe, out of harm’s way and any negative influence.
